The Scottish Beavers Network - campaigning for the
Reintroduction of the
European Beaver into Scotland

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP

Now that the European beaver is on the Species Action List we must make every effort to keep it there by letting the politicians know how much the people of the UK in general and Scotland in particular want this animal back. The best way of doing so is to write to your political representatives - in Scotland this means your own MSP plus the list MSPs for your region.

If you don't know who they are click here for a directory of all MSPs

If that doesn't provide the answers you need click here to email us. We will try to find the answers for you.

Write your letters and emails in your own words but here are some points you might wish to include:

The UK is the only European country apart from Lichtenstein that does not have beavers.
Beavers improve habitats for other species such as fish, otters, water fowl and a host of other birds, animals and insects.
Beavers will be good for tourism
Over time, beavers help many types of tree to spread.
Beavers are vegetarian - they do not eat fish.
Beavers do not destroy forests.
Beavers do not spread diseases
In the original consultation on beaver reintroduction there was overwhelming support for bringing the beaver back to Scotland.
The beaver is one of the missing links in the Scottish wildlife chain.
Beavers belong in Scotland
